Until the early 1970s, so-called "Navy Rum" was still an integral part of sailors' shipboard rations. When this was abolished on "Black Tot Day", they wore mourning clothes. Based on the rum of the time, this blend was created from four different molasses-based distillates that matured for up to five years: 60% of the rum comes from Guyana. It consists of both pot and column still rum as well as unaged distillate. A further 35% consists of 5-year-old pot and column still rum from Barbados, while 5% of the rum is a 3-year-old high-esterJamaican rum from the pot still. The result is a blend with a strong character that no sailor would have rejected.
