Founded in 2008, Breckenridge Distillery is one of the highest distilleries in the world, located 9,600 feet (2926 metres) above sea level. The water for the whiskey was obtained from the melting snow of the Rocky Mountains. This creation is aged in charred American oak casks and received a finish in Pedro Ximénez casks from Jerez in Andalusia. The sherry was stored in these barrels using the solera method, whereby the wood absorbs old and young distillates and later releases them back to the Bourbon during refining.
