Product description
This Ledaig is named after the founder of the distillery, John Sinclair. The distillery on the island of Mull was still called Ledaig (safe haven) in 1798. The first bottling of the new Sinclair Series was matured in casks in which sweet-fruity red wine from the Spanish Rioja had previously been stored.

Kommentar: This is imho a very nice and affordable Single Malt. Fruity, red wine, oak, lightly peated, well balanced. Great stuff.

Finish:
On the nose: Rich, fruity red wine notes, intermingled with that characteristic, rich, almost pungent Tobermory Ledaig peat smoke of which I'm a big fan. Like aromatic leather thrown on a campfire. Some very subtle nuttiness too. With water the smoke gets less intense and rich. The fruit becomes very unripe (in a good way, it's nice). The wine note recede but the spices from the finish come out - just a little.
On the palate: First dry oak, followed by dry red wine and peat smoke. Very rich, some black current notes appear. Some subtle sweetness too. With water the sweetness is now in the beginning now and then fades away. Notes of green banana come though only a little of the astringency.
Finish is more dry black currents red wine and cocoa with lingering peat and spices.
