The Störtebeker Single Malt Reserve is the best of the wood used in the maturation of the German whisky: After initially maturing in a 220-litre oak cask, the Single Malt was redistributed to 3 casks and matured in former port wine casks, mulberry wood casks and chestnut wood casks. The innovative types of wood and the carefully assembled casks ultimately made the whisky an exceptional single malt with multi-layered flavours. The Störtebeker Single Malt Reserve can be enjoyed on its own or paired with strong cheeses, grilled beef steaks from the smoker or as an ingredient for classic long drinks and cocktails such as Whiskey Sour and Old Fashioned.
The Störtebeker distillery is an artisan whisky distillery located in the south-east Rügen biosphere reserve. Whiskies have been produced in a former hotel dating back to 1908 since the mid-2000s. The first of these was distilled in 2009. The location on the popular island of Rügen quickly made the whisky famous and Störtebeker has been a partner since 2020, investing in the site and trialling new whisky creations. Innovation and craftsmanship are just as important to the distillery as research and development, which is where the partnerships with the ZELT Institute and Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences in the field of food technology come from.
