This Ledaig from the Tobermory distillery is a really smoky and complex malt that could have come from the island of Islay. Ledaig translates as safe haven. The new bottling of Ledaig was bottled by Burn Stewart with a higher alcohol content. The 12-year-old Bunnahabhain and the 10-year-old Tobermory also received this upgrade.

Aroma:
Taste:
Finish:
On the nose: Smoke! Burning tyres! Burning sappy wood! But also some wonderful sweet cake notes, some grapefruit, slight cologne and floral notes. With water the floral notes are more forward also some fresh grass notes are come out. The peat is drier and some lychee note appear.
On the palate: Sweet, chlorine pool note (but in a good way), medicinal smoke and peat smoke. With water the sweetness is a little more full, mouth feel is pretty good, starts getting citrus notes.
Finish: More peat smoke along with oak bitterness, some dry lemon appears after adding water.
Overall it's one of my favourites, one of the best bang-for-you-buck peat-bombs but also with a good amount of interesting complexity. Highly recommended!

Abgang: Weiter mineralischer Rauch, leicht salzig.
Kommentar: Sehr angenehm! Aber teurer als Ardbeg 10? Erst mal die Mini-Flasche probieren ist da das Sicherste.
