The Killowen distillery is one of the smallest Irish distilleries. The Irish single malt whiskey is distilled in small batches in two handmade copper pot stills. The whiskey is matured in oak barrels before being finished in Pedro Ximénez butts and rum barrels, which give it a Caribbean flavour.

Geschmack: Noten von Kokosnuss und Vanille verbinden sich mit Anklängen von Feigen, Trockenpflaumen und Rosinen.

Kommentar: Überraschend ist, dass die Fassstärke wunderbar gebunden ist, d. h. der Alkohol schlägt weder beim Erstkontakt noch im Abgang negativ entgegen. Man möchte ursprünglichen irischen Whiskey produzieren. Das ist gut so, denn er schmeckt wesentlich ausgewogener und cremiger als die aktuellen Destillate der anderen irischen Brennereien mit ihrer Dreifachdestillation bei der anscheinend immer mal der Geschmack auf der dritten Strecke bleibt.
