This time-honoured Laphroaig is part of The Archive Collection, a limited series that presents exceptionally long matured single malts from the Islay distillery. The first bottling in this special and strictly limited series matured in American oak casks with a finish in second-fill Oloroso sherry hogsheads. This makes the malt more subtle and complex layer by layer. It is a special challenge to preserve the peat smoke of a 36-year-old whisky, because only through perfected craftsmanship, a great deal of patience and the essential sensitivity in combination with the right intuition could the characteristics of this rarity be preserved over three decades. The single malt is the oldest Laphroaig for over 20 years and is bottled in a hand-blown glass bottle with a special neck inspired by the sea glass found on the beaches of Islay.

Laphroaig (pronounced 'La-froig') means 'the beautiful hollow by a broad bay' in Gaelic. The area around the distillery, which is located on the remote island of Islay (pronounced 'Ei-la') off the west coast of Scotland, is just as beautiful. Laphroaig Whiskies are considered the most smoky-intense malt Whiskies from Scotland.
