The Small Batch No. 6 from Signatory Vintage comes from the Mortlach distillery, which is based in Speyside. The single malt whisky matured for 10 years in Bolgheri red wine casks. The red wines from the Tuscan coastal town of Bolgheri are characterised by intense notes of red fruits and berries. The black tube and red label of this limited edition bottling are as elegant as the origin and the single malt itself.

The Mortlach distillery was the first of Dufftown’s famous seven distilleries. The distillery was also the first legal distillery in the town, which is quite a distinction, especially when we consider the impressive amount of illicit activity that was occurring around the site at that time.

Nicht ganz so leicht zugänglich, wie die anderen SV Small Matches, die ich bisher probiert habe. Aber das muss ja auch gar nicht negativ sein.
Dafür kann man sich mit diesem hier etwas mehr auseinandersetzen, als mit den süffigeren Kollegen, wo man aufpassen muss, dass das Glas nicht zu schnell geleert ist.
Er hat die herzhaften, fleischigen Noten, die man von Mortlach kennt und ja eigentlich auch schon erwartet.
Mir schmeckt er sehr gut. Und mit gefällt auch die eingestellte Trinkstärke der Serie von 48,2 Vol%. Es muss nicht immer Fassstärke sein.
Dafür kann man sich mit diesem hier etwas mehr auseinandersetzen, als mit den süffigeren Kollegen, wo man aufpassen muss, dass das Glas nicht zu schnell geleert ist.
