Santísima Trinidad, like all Cuban rums, is made with aguardiente (sugar cane spirit). This gives the rum a more austere character than the rums of other countries. It is made from selected molasses and goes through a long maturing and purification process. This gives the rum a finer and more subtle profile. For the basic rum recipe, the aguardiente is first stored in barrels for at least 4 years. This is followed by maturation in American white oak barrels.
