This 12-year-old Tomatin single malt matured for a full 12 years in first-fill sherry casks and is now part of the Tomatin range. This has made the balanced and fruity whisky a special release from the Highland distillery, which is otherwise better known for its different and excellent cask finishes.

Tomatin has been a rising star among the Scottish distilleries since the beginning of the millennium. The Highland distillery was the biggest Scottish distillery in the 1970, but the quality of the Whisky wasn’t high regarded. Ups and downs followed and after been new positioned from 2000 onwards Tomatin grew to be one of the most reputable Scottish Whisky brands worldwide.

Aroma: Reichhaltig und intensiv mit karamellisierten Noten von Apfel- und Birnen, dazu eine Mischung aus Sultaninen, Orangenschalen, Aprikosen und ein Hauch von gealtertem Leder.
Geschmack: Tief und komplex mit Anklängen von Schokoladenfondant und Manukahonig. Deutliche Facetten von Trockenfrüchten und Nüssen zum Ende hin.
Abgang: Warm und rund mit einer süßlichen Zimtwürze.

Im Aroma die totale Sherry-Bombe. Ganz toll. Enttäuschung setzte dann beim ersten Schluck ein. Das Mundgefühl ist sehr dünn, ja fast schon wässrig und kann nicht sofort das einhalten, was der Geruch versprochen hat.
Den Tropfen muss man etwas auf der Zunge liegen lassen und Zeit geben sich zu entfalten. Dann setzt langer Speichelfluss ein und die typischen Sherryaromen schlagen voll zu.
Sehr süß und fruchtig. Das kräftige Holz und die ordentliche Würze kompensieren dann ganz gut, das er nur 40% hat. Nix für den Vollprofi aber auch kein "lahmer" Anfängerstoff.
Guter Whisky mit starker Fassauswahl, einer top Brennerei zu einem (leider selten gewordenen) fairen Preis. Schön, das es das auch noch gibt.
Würde ich wieder kaufen.
