This Tullibardine matured for 11 years and was matured in Zinfandel casks and is part of The Marquess Collection, in which the Highland distillery bottles its whiskies for a German importer. The finish gives the Single Malt a floral freshness with fruity notes.

Tullibardine is actually not the oldest Scottish Distillery but regarding the first step of the Whisky production it is one of the Methuselahs of the business: The visit of King James 4th of Scotland of the local brewery situated here before is known as the first recorded purchase of Beer. That was in 1488, long before in 1949 the first spirit was distilled here at Tullibardine in Perthshire.

Aroma: Dunkle, rote Beeren und Trauben, dazu ein leichter Anklang von Zimt und süßer Vanille. Und tatsächlich auch ein paar forale Noten, wie eine Blumenwiese im Frühling.
Geschmack: Leicht säuerliche Trauben. Dann mischt sich eine angenehme Süße dazu. Dahinter kann man Gewürze erahnen.
Abgang: Sehr würzig nach Zimt und Muskat, aber jetzt auch deutlich süßer. Eiche kommt durch und auch die säuerlichen Beeren kommen nochmal zurück.
Kommentar: Nicht so herb und trocken wie ich das schon bei anderen Rotwein Finishes hatte, aber auch gleichzeitig nicht so kraftvoll. Eher leicht, frisch und fruchtig. Braucht nicht unbedingt Wasser, aber es schadet auch nicht. Leider für mich ingesamt nicht ganz stimmig.
