Scarabus is the name of a mystical place on the Scottish island of Islay and means 'a rocky place'. The Single Malt of the independent bottler Hunter Laing from Glasgow is named after this place. The Islay-born fairytale author John Francis Campbell designed the label true to the mystical motto 'Only those who seek will find'.

Aroma: Sanfter Rauch zu Beginn. Je länger man riecht umso maritimer wird er. Umgeht man den Rauch, wird die Eiche sichtbar, fast schon süsslich. Mehr auch nicht. Mit Wasser öffnet er sich ein wenig, salziger, mehr in Richtung Hafengeruch. Genau mein Ding!

Geschmack: Interessante Mischung aus Meerwasser, medizinisch phenolischen und speckigen Geschmack. Wärmend ist er wirklich, nicht so ölig, wässrig aber auf keinen Fall, er lässt sich gut im Mund schwenken, Eiche ist klassisch, nichts besonderes. Ein Profi würde hier jtz irgendwas fruchtiges erahnen, mir erschliesst sich nichts.

Abgang: Der phenolisch, speckige Glanz vom Rauch mit einer süsseren Eiche als im Aroma / Geschmack. Zum Ende hat er was leicht herbes.

Kommentar: Schwer, keinen Vergleich zum Old Ballantruan zu ziehen, denn ich finde die ähneln sich stark. Für den Preis und O.A: 3 Sterne total gerechtfertigt. Mehr aber nicht! Mir erschliesst sich nun nicht mehr als Rauch und Eiche. Aber ein besonderer Rauch! Wa
