Description du produit
The name Kilkerran comes from Gaelic and is derived from 'Ceann Loch Cilli Chiarain'. This was the name of the first settlement on the site where the town of Campbeltown now stands. The malt is produced at Mitchell's Glengyle distillery. The distillery was closed for over 80 long years, but was refurbished and reopened by Springbank. The first distillate flowed on 25 March 2004. The 12-year-old was created from 70% Bourbon and 30% Sherry casks.

Aroma: Oak Almonds Dried Fruit Eichenwürze, getrocknete Früchte, etwas Marzipan/Mandeln, einige florale Noten

Geschmack: Plum Pflaume und andere reife Früchte, Caramel karamellige Süße, dezent etwas im Hintergrund,Grapefruit sehr dezente Zitrusnoten, am ehesten Grapefruit?, Spices Würznoten von der Eiche, Muskat oder Ingwer gepaart mit dezenter Schärfe, Peat Smoke dezenter Rauch, durchaus komplex

Abgang: dezenter Rauch, Gewürze und Süße, getrocknete Früchte. Mittellanger Abgang

Kommentar: es ist mein erster Whisky von Kilkerran, den ich probierte. Komplex, interessante Mischung, für mich auffallend wenig Rauch. Den maritimen Charakter, den dieser Whisky haben soll, den suche ich noch. Mit Springbank hat Kilkerran einen großen Konkurrenten, der mir bisher besser zugesagt hat.
Vielleicht schmeckt er mir beim zweiten Tasting besser.PLV: fast 60,--€ für einen durchschnittlichen 12-jährigen ist irgendwie schon Obergrenze, 30,--€ dazu und man ist beim Macallan

Kommentar: Anders als die meisten Rezensenten empfinde ich den Rauch zeitweise doch als zu vordergründig, zumal er vom Typ her eher zu den unangenehmen zählt (Tendenz kalte Asche). Um anderen eine Orientierung zu geben: Der Talisker 10 ist ebenfalls pfeffrig und würzig, jedoch gepaart mit einem angenehmen, zum süß geprägten Destillat passenden Rauch.
